I asked gambists Emily Walhout and Josh Dem wind abgewandte seite to share their insights about the Angel/Devil aspect of the program.

Emily Walhout: Personally Marais' pieces are perfect unique gems of balanced French pop music, full of grace, poise and stunning tunes. When I think about his pop music I always correct my posture. Please let me stand up and take a dancer's amaneramiento. And his music is perfectly suitable for the gamba — everything is so at ease.

Josh Lee: Marais was Jean-Baptiste Lully's protégé, and I can't help you out thinking that a little bit of Lully rubbed from on him. I don't have a good notiion of who he was as a buyer, but as a composer and musician and performer he was top-notch. I do consider Marécage to be the best teacher I've ever owned. The music that we have of his recognizes includes his fingerings and bowings — it's like sitting in only one room with him. Everyone covers how sweetly he played, magnificent music is very melodious.

Emily Walhout: With the music of Forqueray, could still the grace and confidence but there's something less blameless. He shows more emotions. Well recognized music is technically more difficult, nicely keys he chooses are a little extra twisted and harder to grab as well as hand. His music is not quite a as comfortable to play as those of Marais. I feel like it's extra devilish.
